Getting to know you

No two cases are exactly the same, even if presented with the same diagnosis. There is no fixed rehabilitation playbook or standard protocols—hence, the key to a successful recovery plan is contingent on a comprehensive, thorough and effective assessment. Here's an in-depth guide to our 60-minute initial consultation.

Step 1

History taking

  • Review existing medical condition(s), clinical reports, radiographs (if any)

  • Assess patient mentation and behavior

  • Ascertain motivation drive and other considerations

Step 2

Gait assessment

  • Evaluate for physical impairments or lameness in walk/trot (where capable) aided with slow-mo video capture

  • Check for postural alterations and breed-related conformation

Step 3

Orthopedic assessment

  • Establish joint range of motion and/or restrictions

  • Identify soft tissue tension and trigger points

  • Examine muscle condition, including coverage, bulk, and tone

  • Palpate for joint changes, restrictions, pain, and dysfunctions

step 4

Neurological assessment

  • Determine presence of any postural deficits 

  • Test for spinal/proprioceptive reflexes

step 5

Morphometrics

  • Perform objective limb girth measurements

  • Take weight and confirm body condition scoring

step 6

Debrief

  • Discuss key problem area(s) and key findings 

  • Align treatment outcomes, goals, approach, and frequency

  • Propose lifestyle/environmental modifications (where applicable)
